The Peugeot family have been friends of my family for several generations. In the 80s, an agreement between Peugeot and Lacoste under the Presidency of my brother Bernard de La Chemise Lacoste, the release of the Peugeot 205 Lacoste was followed by an agreement with Peugeot and Roland Peugeot offered me one for my 40th birthday (1985) during a cocktail given at the RACE golf course near Madrid. The organizer is Alicio Romero, advertising director for Peugeot Spain.

Following this meeting, a few months later Alicio contacted me because he wanted to develop Peugeot's advertising in Spain through golf, but in particular Severino Ballesteros, the big star at that time and who wore the Lacoste Shirt in that time.

Alicio invited me to lunch at a restaurant in Madrid to tell me about it. Immediately, I called Pepe Basi, (distributor of the Lacoste Shirt in Spain (Barcelona) and asked him for the number to call Seve.

As a result of this call, it turned out that the Spanish Open had just found itself without a sponsor, and Seve's manager proposed that Peugeot become one from that very moment. After some negotiations between them, the agreement was reached and the year after was born on 1er Peugeot Open Golf of Spain and lasted for several years.

It took place at Golf de la Moraleja under the chairmanship of César Zulueta and the director of the Moraleja, Fali Silvela this first Open.

There was a Peugeot Lacoste 205 floating on the lake of 18ème green with a crocodile (inflatable !!).

Beautiful memories with, among others, the following editions in Pedreña (Santander), Nueva Andalucia (with the presence of Lola Flores), El Saler (Valencia), Club de Campo de Madrid.
