BIRMINGHAM, MICHIGAN 1968

LAS COLINAS, TEXAS 1969

It was the fourth very big tournament of the time, a bit like the "Grand Slam"

I had just won the British in June.

As I said before, I had to change my swing a bit to win the British by doing a low ball for the seaside wind of Royal Portrush (advice from Roberto de Vicenzo, this great Argentinian champion!

At the beginning I was in full preparation with my dear teacher, Raymond Garaïalde. An anecdote: I had a toothache that my dentist detected and healed just in time. I had internal decay in a tooth he managed to locate. During my training I had difficulty practicing putting! Finally I was able to start over without any problem and catch my plane from Biarritz, Texas. It was in the middle of August! You can imagine the heat (going up to 40º). The organizers gave us Gatorade (special drink for sportsmen and heat with salts) and I played with a visor and a wet towel around the neck and often an umbrella to be in the shade.

I managed to qualify in the first and made it through the laps to the semi-final without too many problems. In the semifinals, I found Ann Quast Welts Sanders, a great American amateur and after a close match, I managed to reach the final.

In 6 days we have played 8 rounds! In the final I met Shelly Hamlin, who later turned pro and managed to beat her on 36 holes.

After this victory, I played mostly team events (of course with the France team) such as the World Championships: Madrid, Portugal, Fiji and the European Championships.

Then, but much later, a series of European Seniors Championship which was a source of joy, success with old friends and companions.

My return to Saint -Jean-de Luz
