It was around 13 or 14 years old that Bing Crosby came to Chantaco and I had the joy and privilege of playing with him and my parents. He played with an immense joie de vivre, singing at random along the course "Under the old apple tree" or showing his clubs that were 5 or 10 cm longer. So much so that he had to have a special bag to protect them. Strangely enough, he disappeared at the golf course of La Moraleja, less than 5 km from my Spanish residence, from a heart attack after a very good round of golf. His wife, when told of his death, asked about the circumstances of his death and was glad to know that he had scored well that day. There are people we would like to be eternal!
